Proposal 2

Imagine what it must be like to have to watch a loved one suffer through a disease like Alzheimer's or cancer. Now imagine that there is a way to find a cure for them. That is what proposal 2 on the November 4th ballot offers. The passing of proposal 2 in Michigan would expand stem cell research allowing for hope that cures can be found for people suffering. If approved this proposal would allow the excess stem cells of fertility patients to be used for medical research instead of simply being throw away. Each attempt for parents to concieve a child in a fertility results in the creation of 30 to
40 extra embryos, the majority of these end up being medical waste and being disposed of.
Michigan is one of only a few states that still has tight restriction on stem cell research and propsal 2 could change that.

A family consisting of three small children is among the one in favor of approving the proposal. When Max, Maddie and Sam's parents, Jeff and Jane Trimper, found out that all three of their young children were afflicted by the genetic disease metachromatic leukodystrophy they were devastated. MLD is a degenerative nerve disease that slowly takes away their ability to function normally and is always fatal. By taking away the unnecessary ban on stem cell research in Michigan it would clear the way to finding cures for so many debilitating. These stem cells can also be used to treat spinal cord injuries giving hope to the paralyzed.

So I wonder why anyone wold even consider denying this proposal. Apparently it's better for stem cells to be dumped than to be used for something that could potentially save anyone of our lives or our children's lives one day.
